Board of Education Meeting

Meeting was called to order at 6:30 PM

Grant the Believe, Achieve, and Succeed Award to Amy Heydinger.

Recommend to accept donations from the Galion Community Education Foundation for the following:

• Winter/Spring 2017-2018 Middle School LEAD Program- $10,000.00
• Show Choir Camp- $3,500.00 (Up to $350.00 each/10 students)
• 2nd Grade Field Trip to Crossroads- $600.00
• Lowe Volk Park Field Trip- Kindergarten and 1st Grade- $1,500.00

Recommend to accept a grant donation in the amount of $2,000.00 from Group Employees Foundation. The grant was written by Paula Prince and awarded for Lego Education Story Starters.

Recommend to accept a grant donation in the amount of $10,000.00 from Key Bank/Hessenauer Trust, awarded for Galion City Schools Athletics.

Approve the second and final read of the Board Bylaws and Policies, as attached:

Recommend to approve the renewal of Board Policy 2261.01- Parent Participation in Title I Programs, as attached:

Recommend to approve a Band Trip to Nashville, TN March 22-25, 2018. Participants will travel by chartered bus to attend the Heritage Festival and will also include visits to the Country Music Hall of Fame, exhibits, and other music related activities. The trip will be funded by various fundraisers/donations and students may earn free academic credits. The Music Parents Club will be required to submit a $850.00 non-refundable deposit upon approval from the Board of Education to lock in travel rates for the trip.

Pursuant to guidance issued from USDA Food and Nutrition Services dated December 15, 2016 paragraph 3 (copy attached), recommend to approve the breakfast and lunch prices for school year 2017-2018 as follows:

• Breakfast- including milk for all buildings = $1.30
• Adult Breakfast- including milk = $1.60
• Lunch- including milk for High School and Middle School = $2.85
• Lunch- including milk for Intermediate and Primary School = $2.70
• Adult Lunch- including milk = $3.70

Approve the issuance of One-Year Teaching contracts to the following, contingent upon state certification as applicable to position, effective with the 2017-2018 school year; salary to be based on the Teachers' Salary Schedule for the 2017-2018 school year:

• Tina Crim- Elementary Teacher
• Lucinda Voss-Edgell- Preschool/Intervention Specialist
• Elizabeth Volz- Middle School Intervention Specialist

Approve the issuance of Home Instruction Tutor contracts to the following for the 2016-2017 school year at the rate of $20.00 per hour:

• Paula Seng
• Amy Tyree
• Stephanie Dorsey

Approve the issuance of a Continuing Contract to Sean Maguire per the terms and conditions of the Galion Education Association's Master Agreement.

Accept the resignation of Christopher Lewis, Intermediate School Custodian, effective April 28, 2017.

Approve the following classified substitute personnel, contingent upon state certification as applicable to position, for the remainder of the 2016-2017 school year:

• Wendell L. Layton- Substitute Custodian

Approve the following Extra-Duty Assignments for the 2016-2017 school year:

High School

Josh Caudill- Volunteer Freshman Softball

Approve the non-renewal of all employees holding supplemental contracts at the conclusion of the 2016-2017 school year.

Recommend to approve the Memo of Understanding between the Galion Board of Education and the Galion Youth Baseball/Galion Graders for the 2017 season.  

Recommend to approve an agreement between the Galion Board of Education and Renhill Group for the purpose of providing certified staffing services/substitute placement per the terms and conditions of the contract.  

Recommend to approve the Memorandum of Understanding between the Galion Board of Education and the Galion Educational Association regarding Extra Duty Assignments, as attached.
