2. SUPERINTENDENT'S RECOMMENDATIONS - SCHOOL CALENDAR/CALAMITY DAYS

*Discuss options for addressing excess calamity day make-ups, including Online Calamity Day Make-ups (Blizzard Bags) and revising the School Calendar.

Minutes

Mr. Stefanik presented a window of opportunity offered by ODE - shared information about status of GCSD as far as calamity days - as of today there have been 11 calamity days - consistent with area schools. Allowed 5 through state law - 6 make up days - 1st few days of June - 2nd week after our normal school calendar. He is concerned that seniors will not ruturn after graduation they would have to return 3 days after receiving diplomas

Options open to board - boards are permitted to revise school calendars

2nd semester 2 days that are listed as days off for staff and students - Presidents day in Feb and Spring break in April - spring break Monday is day in question. Those days would take senior days to 1 day after graduation.

Newest option coming from ODE - Blizzard bag (on line learning calamity day makeup days) permitted to use 3 days. Cannot use for days that have already happened - only days in the future. Can be used to slow accumulation of makeup days. No additional added to 6 until the 4th calamity day.

Mr. Long asked about number of days to make up work - next day in school if no on line access time will be given in school or presented with paper copy and two weeks from then to return paper copy for makeup work.

Option to move graduation back. Students not attending days after graduation could affect HS attendance rate. Original graduation date May 30 could be postponed to June 6th.

Mrs. Kuns asked if Saturdays were an option for Seniors. Mr. Stefanik said the only thing he is aware of is District has set contingency plan. They are permitted to make changes to school calendars but are not permitted to make changes in contingency plans. Once day 11 has been used, district is permitted to add 1/2 hours to a scheduled school days.

One day to make-up for seniors if these changes take place after their graduation.
