    Recommend to accept the Retirement Resignation of John Erlsten, Middle School Teacher, effective at the end of the 24-25 school year.

    Recommend to accept the Retirement Resignation of Michelle Talbott, Intermediate School Teacher, effective at the end of the 24-25 school year.

    Recommend to approve a change of placement on the pay scale for Skye Carpenter, Primary School Teacher, from Bachelors to Bachelors + 12, effective with the first pay of the current contract year, per Article X of the Negotiated Agreement.

    3.5 Superintendent's Recommendations - Professional, Non-Supervisory

    Recommend to approve a correction of Item 3.4 of the April 16, 2024 Board of Education meeting.  Brian Kentosh was board approved as a Long Term Substitute Teacher for the 2024-2025 school year, instead, recommend to approve the issuance of a Professional, Non-Supervisory contract effective for the 2024-2025 school year, salary to be based upon the Teacher's salary schedule at Step 5 for the 2024-2025 school year, as defined in the GEA Negotiated Agreement.


    3.6 Superintendent's Recommendations - Classified Personnel

    Recommend to approve employment of the following Classified Substitute Personnel, contingent upon state certification and/or requirements as applicable to the position, for the 2024-2025 school year:

    3.11 Science of Reading - Stipend Payments

    Recommendation to authorize the Treasurer to pay the Science of Reading Stipends of $1,200 or $400 according to the requirements set forth by House Bill 33, of the state operating budget to the staff members who complete the mandatory training. 

     


    3.12 GEA Instructional Coaches - MOU

    Recommend to approve a Memorandum of Understanding between the Galion Board of Education and Galion Educational Association, regarding extended days for Instructional Coaches for the 2024-2025 school year, as attached:

    Recommend to approve a Memorandum of Understanding between the Galion Board of Education and Galion Education Association, to amend their existing collective bargaining agreement as it relates to negotiated provisions for severance pay upon retirement for the 2024-2025 school year, as attached:

    3.18 ADDENDUM ITEM - OAPSE Bus Driver Signing Bonus MOU

    Recommend to approve a Memorandum of Understanding between the Galion Board of Education and Ohio Association of Public School Employees, regarding implementing a pilot program for the 2024-2025 school year to pay a cash signing bonus to newly hired bus drivers and pay for training that results in an S&P endorsement for drivers holding a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), as attached:


    3.19 24-25 Mid-Ohio ESC - Social Worker Agreement

    Recommend to approve the contract service agreement between the Galion City School District and Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center, effective for the 2024-2025 school year, for the purpose of providing a Social Worker to the District, as attached:


    3.20 24-25 NOVA Agreement

    Recommend to approve a one-year agreement between the Galion Board of Education and NOVA, for the purpose of administering instructional services and materials related to virtual learning, as attached:  


    3.21 Field Trips

    Recommend to approve the following field trips for the 2024-2025 school year:

    High School

    • September 16, 2024 - Teen Institute members attending Rally Against Drugs - Bucyrus, OH
    • September 27, 2024 - CAP classes to Mohican State Park in Loudonville, OH
    • November 8, 2024 - Incentive trip to Galion Community Theater
    • November 8, 2024 - Incentive trip to play pickleball at the Galion YMCA
    • November 21, 2024 - All 9th grade students attending Freshman Empowerment at GracePoint Church, Galion, OH
    • October 4, 2024 - Junior students to tour factories/industries in Mansfield, OH

    Middle School

    • October, TBD - 7th grade students to tour Pioneer in Shelby, OH
    • May 16, 2025 - 8th grade students to Cedar Point in Sandusky, OH

    Intermediate School

    • November 6-8, 2024 - 3rd through 5th grade students' Incentive trip to Victory Lanes in Galion, OH

    Primary School

    • December 19, 2024 - Kindergarten students to Galion Community Theater in Galion, OH

    3.22 Galion Middle School's Spooktacular Event

    Recommend to approve sponsorship and accept donations for Spooktacular, an annual Trick or Treating event held on October 31, 2024 at the Galion Middle School.  This event is a great extension of our school’s character education program, The Leader in Me.  It provides students with opportunities to show leadership, build community relationships, and also make the transition from elementary school easier for students and families.  In order to make the Spooktacular a success, we have reached out to area businesses to be part of this event as sponsors.


    3.23 2024-2025 D.A.R.E. Resolution

    WHEREAS, the Ohio Revised Code, Section 4511.191, (L)(2)(e), currently known as the DUI Law, established the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) Grants Fund to be housed and administered by the Office of the Attorney General of Ohio; and

    WHEREAS, the primary purpose of the D.A.R.E. Grants Program is to assist in providing funds to local law enforcement agencies, specifically for the salaries of certified D.A.R.E. officers teaching, or planning to teach, the approved D.A.R.E. curriculum in the local schools; and

    WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the Galion City Board of Education to avail ourselves of the opportunities provided by this program and to participate with complete commitment;

    NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Galion City Board of Education, Galion, Ohio the majority of all members elected or appointed thereto concurring that:

    Section 1: The Galion City Board of Education supports all efforts by the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department to pursue funding to implement the D.A.R.E. Program in the Galion City Schools.

    _____ g. consider details of security arrangements and emergency response protocols where disclosure might reveal information that could reasonably be expected to jeopardize the District's security;
    _____ h. consider confidential information related to the marketing plans, specific business strategy, production techniques, trade secrets, or personal financial statements of an applicant for economic development assistance or negotiations with other politics subdivisions regarding requests for economic development assistance (provided statutory conditions are met).
