Enter Executive Session to consider the appointment, employment, dismissal, discipline, promotion, demotion, or compensation of a public employee.
Recommend the Board reinstate the contracts of the following personnel as a result of being reinstated under the provisions of the reduction in force procedure effective with the 2013-2014 school year:
Sarah Wegesin, Primary Grade 1 Teacher
Thomas C. Wiggins, Middle School Intervention Specialist
Whereas, Fritz A. Caudle has resigned for the purpose of retirement effective August 31, 2013, and
Whereas, he is on an extended leave of absence until that time due to personal illness, and
Whereas, he will not be returning to the position of High School Principal prior to the effective date of his retirement, and
Whereas, the operation of the High School requires that a Principal be available at all times.
Now, Therefore, Be it Resolved:
That this Board finds and determines that it is necessary and appropriate to hire a new High School Principal effective July 1, 2013, even though Mr. Caudle is still employed in that capacity but unavailable due to his illness.
That a two (2) year contract as High School Principal is hereby awarded to Ron Williams commencing July 1, 2013 through June 30, 2015 per the Administrative Salary Range for the assigned position.
Approve the employment of the following personnel contingent upon subsequent receipt by the Board of a satisfactory criminal record check from the Bureau of Criminal Identification and Federal Bureau of Investigation as required by law and applicable state certification:
Accept the resignation of Fritz Caudle effective August 31, 2013.
Award a two year administrative contract to Ronald Williams, High School Principal, effective July 1, 2013 through June 30, 2015 with salary to be based on the Administrative Salary Range for the assigned position.
Approve the following Extra-Duty Assignments for the 2013-2014 school year:
Bryce Lehman, Head Varsity Girls Basketball Coach
Fred Beachy, Head Junior Varsity Girls Basketball Coach
Approve Brian Owens as Volunteer Football Coach for the 2013-2014 school year.
Accept the Five Year Forecast and assumptions as presented for submission to the Ohio Department of Education.
Adoption of Pickup
Be it resolved, effective July 1, 2013 the Galion City Schools Board of Education agrees to pick up the total amount of employee contributions required by Section 3307.26, Revised Code, to be contributed by Superintendent to STRS Ohio. Galion City Schools Board of Education is permitted to pick up employee contributions pursuant to Section 3307.27, Revised Code, and Section 414(h)(2) of the Internal Revenue Code. These picked-up contributions, although designated as employee contributions, are being paid by the Galion City Schools Board of Education in lieu of employee contributions, and shall be paid by the board as a fringe benefit in addition to the contract salary otherwise payable to the employee. These contributions shall be treated as additional compensation and included in salary for retirement purposes.
The Superintendent may not opt out of the picked-up contributions or elect to receive the contributed amounts directly instead of having them picked up by the Galion City Schools Board of Education and paid to STRS Ohio.

Galion City Schools Board of Education is permitted to pick up employee contributions pursuant to Section 3307.27, Revised Code, and Section 414(h)(2) of the Internal Revenue Code. These picked-up contributions, although designated as employee contributions, are being paid by the Galion City Schools Board of Education in lieu of employee contributions, and shall be treated as mandatory salary reduction from the contract salary otherwise payable to the employee.
Employees in the teachers group may not opt out of the picked-up contributions or elect to receive the contributed amounts directly instead of having them picked up by the Galion City Schools Board of Education and paid to STRS Ohio.
Recommend approving the Superintendent job description as presented.
Recommend the Board enter into Executive Session to consider the appointment, employment, dismissal, discipline, promotion, demotion, or compensation of a public employee.
